The project I selected is the Galaxy for Soho China, Beijing 2012, which is a new mixed-use commercial building designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. She inspired by the different of the integral part can be made up with a grand scale of Beijing. It can be seen that the spatial organization of the “architecture is a composition of five continuous, flowing volumes that are set apart, fused or linked by stretched bridges. In addition, these volumes adapt to each other in all directions, generating a panoramic architecture without corners or abrupt transitions that break the fluidity of its formal composition”. The design concept is “Parametric design”.She believed that this design concept allows us to more complexity to blend into each project, it is deal with the complex structure cause visual clutter. Also, it provided the effect of the mobility and elegance.
Importantly, they choose the BIM(Buiding Information Modeling) as the key process to construct that project. The BIM can allow the relative information made up with a single three-dimensional visual model, also it can be viewed as a system. Furthermore, this system is not independent but is correlated with the parameter. For example, through adjust the parameter of the facade, the varying thickness with the facade are provided new and interesting technical and aesthetical thought. Therefore, it well-known that parameter change could influence the hole design and also the establishment of parametric design systems, adaptive changes, continue to divide, forming a dynamic city-scale building. Furthermore, the parametric design makes designer delivery a lot more effective that avoid the fuzzy and confusion could expand human thinking diversity and extension.
In my opinion, my project model develop in Rhino is focusing on the parameter control and adopt the appearance of the Galaxy For Soho. The aim of the model is not only show the continuum, flowability movement, and hierarchical structure, but also demonstrate the parametric design make the composition free and flexible.
