In the this book chapter, Hughes has demoustrated the “ Technology as Machine” start from 20^th century and it have changed in profound ways. It well-known that there are some counties which are American and Germany was influenced by the industial revolution. That shows the two contries was enter into the era of mechanization. Therefore, it have impact on the different area, such as culture and political. However,American and Germans have different opinions abour the machine. Like the American believed that the physical enviroment can be improved due to the machine. I thingk i agree with the American’s opinions, because I believed the machine technology will usher in the next stage of human, giving future people exquisite powers we do not cuttently. Also, American also thought the technology can be use to the building create and urban space built. That’s based on the nature. In the future, so much as machine and techonology will replace the worker and has influence on the global production. On the other hand, some Germans and European considered that the machine has destructive effect and intervention factor, as a result they against the americans who adore the machine. Interestingly, German is a country which professional in the technology. And the Hughes also believed that’s why the German have an effect on the global natural enviroment. Overall, I think this is a very interesing chapter, which can be known that the different arguments ablout the machine and technology and how the Tecchnology and machine could effect the country and human. 

This week the topic is A Universe of Discourse: Keywords. Through read some readings. I gain a glimpse of philosophy from that readings.

1. Firstly, Menges provided the definition of Computation in his book introdution,which is an approach can be applied in the processarchitecture design and also express the ideas of designer. However, this tpye of tools are also be confined due to can not gain benefit from computer capacity. Furthermore, it well-known that the computational design are played a key role in design thingking and method in nowadays. Through the generation of computational processes has been created, it can effectively to represent the objects, form, space, and structure as a integrated systems and help to set up novel thingking for architecture and theory. In addititon, computational design thingking be established in architecture areas and it have impact on other subject, for example the evolutionary biology, system science and philosophy. It is no doubt that it has became anew mode of thingking for 21^st century even could be diferent than historical construction method or replace it in the future. However, I believed that it is now the design area needed.

2. Foucault comes up with four hypotheses about a discursive unity. However, the four assumption fails. There are some reasons proved it is impossible. Firsly, some staff is not single,simple, or unifed, they have different meanings in defferent areas. So we have to solve the gap and differences. Secondly, the statement should be autonomous, decentralized and cognitively diverse. Thirdly, even the discursive formations have same set of concept, we also need to foucus on the change and variability. On the other hand, I belived that Founcault just search for something regular from these hypotheses raher than prove the different type of discursive formations is consistent.
